Electrotherapeutic Modalities

Electrothapies

Performance Animal Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation will use scientifically backed electrotherapies to compliment and enhance the manual techniques used to deliver the most efficient and optimal results.

Why use electrotherapies?

  • Can treat at deeper levels than manual therapy alone

  • Can be used to warm up tissues and joints prior to mobilisations

  • Can provide pain relief to sensitive horses prior to treatment

  • Stimulate cell metabolism & regeneration of damaged tissues for enhanced healing

  • Increase circulation and blood flow, therefore bringing oxygen and nutrients for healing/recovery to the area.

Thermography

Thermal Imaging

Thermal imaging is a useful tool for detecting surface heat and increased circulation. This information when interpreted correctly with anatomical knowledge can help indicate areas of concern or abnormalities before hands on palpation and treatment. Strict measures need to be in place to take a good reading so it is often not appropriate to use once treatment has started, however if you would specifically like a thermal image reading then do mention this at time of booking.

Rehabilitation cases
Performance Animal Physiotherapy will often take thermal images in rehabilitation cases where it can be used to measure circulation and current heat in the injured area, and this can help track progress and healing.
